DAY ONE OF ROTARY FNQ FIELD DAYS ATTRACTS RECORD CROWDS

DAY one of the region’s largest agricultural field days has opened with a bang with more than 8000 visitors flocking to the event.

The Rotary FNQ Field Days – a joint initiative of the Tableland Rotary Clubs of Atherton and Mareeba – is the largest display of agricultural industries and associated services in North Queensland.

“It’s fantastic to see such a huge response on our first day,” Rotary FNQ Field Days committee chair Ida Portella said.

“The event is 12 months in the making and delivers a tremendous economic boost to the Tablelands region across many areas including transport, accommodation and associated services.

“Exhibitors are gearing up for a bumper two-day of sales and interest from customers and this is expected to continue well into the future for many businesses.”

Ms Portella said key to the success of the event was the support of volunteers from each club along with strategic partners – MSF, Mareeba Mazda and Mareeba and Dimbulah Bendigo Bank – and other sponsors.

A jam-packed entertainment program supports the site component of the event with the popular tractor pull running twice daily, drone demonstrations, horsemanship and remote control cars.

There are 265 businesses exhibiting at 400 sites totaling about 1800 exhibitor people.

The event continues tomorrow (Thursday) with highlights including the announcement of the winners in the North Queensland Register Inventors Contest, drawing of the $46,000 Art Union and presentations of the Rotary John Deere Tractor Pull.
