Rotary FNQ Field Days hits new heights in 2017
ROTARY FNQ Field Days will return to Mareeba with an action-packed three-day extravaganza in 2017, as demand for exhibitor sites remains red hot.
Only about 46 sites remain to be filled at Kerribee Park Rodeo Grounds out of the 298 sites set aside under stage one, which was released in December.
Rotary FNQ Field Days chair Pauline Spackman was thrilled with the level of interest in North Queensland’s largest agricultural exhibition, which is this year running with the theme “Leading the Way”.
“Straight after we released stage one, within three or four days we had taken $237,000 worth of bookings,” she said.
“It’s just kept growing.”
Another 83 exhibitor sites will be made available under stage two, to be released later this month, while another 38 sites are planned for stage three.
That will add to the separate 30 market stalls, 28 cattle stalls and 12 “inventors sites” at Field Days this year.
Aspiring inventors will demonstrate their ideas for practical farm and home products to judges at the North Queensland Register Inventors Contest.
The contest has fielded some incredibly innovative entries over the years, including the “Rescue Swag” by Mareeba woman Tracey Beikoff, who featured on television program Shark Tank in 2015.
Mrs Spackman said the move from two to three days would also give exhibitors and those attending more time to see what was on offer.
“All the exhibitors are happy we’re doing three days, we’ve had really positive feedback,” she said.
“A lot of them come from afar and it takes a lot of time to organise their displays. They’re anticipating it will help to spread the crowds out and draw more interest.
“Even though a lot of exhibitors make a lot of sales at Field Days, it’s the return customers they get afterwards as well.”
A whopping 18,000 people passed through the gates at Rotary FNQ Field Days in 2015, with all indications pointing to a repeat of that number.
Crowd favourites such as the popular Rotary John Deere Tractor Pull and Vintage Static Tractor Display will also make their return this year.
That will be in addition to a new event, the Lawn Mower Pull, which is sure to generate interest.
“It doesn’t stop. If you haven’t been, you must come,” Mrs Spackman said.
Mareeba Tyrepower, MSF Sugar and Mareeba Mazda are the major sponsors of Rotary FNQ Field Days 2017.
A biennial event, Rotary FNQ Field Days will be held between May 24 and May 26, 2017.
